A high-achieving Secondary School in Merton are looking to set up interviews with English Academic Mentors who can confidently support students across Years 7-11 from September.

Initially offering one-year contracts, this English Academic Mentor role will prove to be the perfect stepping stone for aspiring English Teachers. It is also ideal for an English Graduate who is looking for a positive way to utilise their subject knowledge and ‘give back’ and positively impact their local community.

English Graduates who are passionate about education and hold a 2:1 or higher degree in English Language, English Literature or Creative Writing from a top UK University are encouraged to apply.

• Successful, high achieving Secondary School in Merton
• £18,750-£20,000 per annum
• September 2024-July 2025 [initial year-long contract]
• Supporting Years 7-11 within English lessons
• Leading 1:1 tutoring sessions
• Delivering small group intervention sessions
• Helping students feel prepared for GCSE exams

We are looking for assured, ambitious and enthusiastic English Graduates to work as an Academic Mentor within English. Students at this school are very well behaved and attentive in their studies, they have high expectations for themselves and are fully engaged with school life.

As the new English Academic Mentor, you will be given your own classroom to tutor small groups of students across Years 7-11. These intervention groups will be decided by the Head of Department for English and will consist of students who have been identified as needing additional support.

This English Academic Mentor role would perfectly suit an English Graduate who is considering a career within English Teaching but wants to gain a solid amount of school experience before applying for Teacher Training.
