Are you a passionate music educator looking to lead a thriving Music Department?

 
We are looking for a Head of Music to join a leading prep school from September 2025. This is a great opportunity to shape and develop a strong music programme, ensuring all pupils have the chance to explore and enjoy music.

 
Head of Music – Role & Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Music Department, maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Deliver a well-structured and engaging music curriculum across all year groups.
  • Organise and direct concerts, productions, and key school performances.
  • Oversee a broad co-curricular programme, including choirs, ensembles, and instrumental groups.
  • Play a key role in assemblies, leading music and accompanying performances.
  • Prepare students for music exams, competitions, and performance opportunities.
  • Work with external music organisations to expand pupil opportunities.
  • Manage peripatetic music staff, ensuring high-quality provision.
  • Support whole-school initiatives by integrating music into the wider curriculum.
  • Contribute to school marketing and admissions through performances and events.
 
Head of Music – Requirements:
  • QTS (or equivalent) and a degree in Music or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching music across different age groups, ideally with leadership experience.
  • Strong musicianship, including confident piano skills and ensemble leadership.
  • A track record of success in delivering performances, choirs, and ensembles.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a commitment to student progress.
  • A proactive approach to developing music within the school community.
