A high-achieving secondary school in NW4, Barnet is seeking a talented and inspirational Head of English to lead their thriving English department from September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent role offering an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced educator ready to drive excellence across the subject.

The appointed Head of English will be a dynamic classroom practitioner with the vision and leadership to further raise attainment and promote a love of literature and language across all key stages. As Head of English, they will be responsible for curriculum development, staff mentoring, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning throughout the department.

This role would suit a current Head of English or an exceptional English teacher ready to step into middle leadership. The successful Head of English will demonstrate a deep understanding of effective pedagogy, a track record of strong outcomes, and a genuine passion for inspiring young minds.

The ideal Head of English will:

• Have QTS and experience teaching across KS3–KS5
• Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and strategic thinking

• Bring energy, creativity, and a commitment to inclusive practice
• Be passionate about raising standards and developing others
• Receive 1 day per fortnight WFH & half day EVERY Friday
