SEMH Support Assistant – Barking & Dagenham – ASAP Start Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? A Secondary School in Barking & Dagenham is seeking a dedicated SEMH Support Assistant to provide crucial 1:1 and small group support for students.

SEMH Support Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to students with SEMH needs, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Lead interventions to improve academic progress and personal development.
  • Recognise when to take students out of class for focused work in alternative settings.
  • Collaborate with families, school staff, and external professionals to ensure holistic support.
  • Maintain a structured and nurturing environment to encourage positive behaviour and learning outcomes.
Essential Requirements:
  • A 1:1 or 2:1 Psychology degree from a leading UK university.
  • Previous experience working with SEN or SEMH students is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of SEMH strategies and best practices.
  • Confident and proactive when managing challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with families, school teams, and third parties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to dynamic school environments.
