Join our Merton-based specialist school as a SEND Teaching Assistant, where you’ll work with students aged between 10-16 years old who have an autistic spectrum condition (ASC).

All students hold an EHCP with ASC as their primary need, with some having additional diagnoses such as ADHD and/or social emotional and mental health needs.

Benefits of this SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Work in a highly supportive, autism-specialist environment, ideal for SEND Teaching Assistants committed to inclusive education.
  • Build meaningful connections with students aged 10-16, encouraging personal growth and independence.
  • An excellent opportunity for Psychology graduates interested in autism support, gaining hands-on experience in a specialist SEND setting.
Key Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant:
  • Provide 1:1 support for students with autism, tailored to their individual needs, promoting both emotional and academic progress.
  • Act as a Key Worker for 10-16 year olds, creating a supportive, safe environment and implementing tailored strategies.
  • Aid students in developing social skills, self-regulation, and communication skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the school’s specialist team to maintain a structured and autism-friendly environment in Raynes Park.
  • Use initiative to adapt support methods to meet students’ unique needs, enhancing their learning experience.
  • Previous experience in an autism-focused or SEND school setting is highly desirable.
The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field, with a strong interest in autism support.
  • Empathy, patience, and adaptability, essential for a successful SEND Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience in a SEND school environment is advantageous.
